I can wear gold or silver with no problems. However the new sterling earrings I got from a shopping channel (not QVC) are really bothering me. Can I coat the wires with clear nail polish or am I asking for more problems? Any other suggestion? They are lever backs and it would be hard to change the findings.

I change my sterling silver leverbacks to stainless steel. I buy stainless leverbacks from eBay.

Inferior silver contains nickel which is probably what is bothering your ears. It won't hurt to try clear nail polished. I've done that years ago with "mystery metal" earrings but it wasn't always highly successful. If you can return them, I would.
I can change out a pair of lever backs in less than 30 seconds but you do need jeweler's pliers. I change all my shepherd's hooks to leverbacks.

@Kachina624 lol and eyes that help you see what you're doing! The one good thing about my eyes now is that I don't have nearly as many fine wrinkles as I once did. And a bridge to sell if you believe that!

I've used a benadryl gel from Amazon to coat the posts before I insert them. I don't need it now all the time, but this used to be a big issue for me and why my earrings stayed in a box. I enjoy my earrings now.

I can't wear silver either. It makes my ears, neck, fingers sore and bloody. I'll stick with the gold I bought years ago.

I change out the findings on my earrings alot--I have a set of jewelry making tools that have the right type of pliers needed. got them cheap on AMZ.

As kachina said, there's nickel in that silver and that's what's causing the problem. You can try the fingernail polish...who knows, maybe it will work. My ears are really sensitive too and I've learned that I can only wear 14k gold or ultra-fine silver with no nickel. I can put on a pair of silver earrings and within 30 minutes I can tell if there's nickel in the silver! I now buy only what I know won't cause me to break out. Good luck!
