Need advice--cleaning jewelry

Hi ladies, need some guidance. I love gemstones and bc I'm a white metal girl I love them set in sterling. My question is, how to you get tarnish off silver without damaging the gemstones? Can you use the tarn-x type stuff on things like peridot and tanzanite? It would be impossible to completely avoid the gemstone if the whole setting is in silver. I've done some research online re cleaning gemstones and they all just say 'mild soap and water' but of course that doesn't remove tarnish from silver. I have the Lux foam cleaner from Q (safe for all gems) but that only removes oils not tarnish from silver. Would appreciate any advice! TIA
