If I forget and am wearing a bracelet with a magnetic clasp and working on my laptop, it messes with the laptop and turns it off. My husband, who's an electronics engineer and total geek, has warned me to not do that again, as it is possible that I could mess up or lose data.

Be careful not to store (or carry in your purse) magnets around your electronics. Magnets will damage the screen, and speakers on cellphones, tablets and such.

No offense but I think that's a myth.

I once tried to place stereo speakers near a television, and they 'pulled' the image and distorted the colors. Really bizarre.

I really don't know Enui how it works.They sell covers & cases with magnets in them.Maybe it's the powerfulness of the magnet or what kind? I started a thread in Electonics so maybe one of the experts there will answer. (:

I've only worn magnetic clasps on necklaces--you know the kind that you can attach to the existing clasp to make it easier to get on and off (darn these arthritic old fingers!) Always had the sneaking suspicion that on bracelets those would be a problem somehow. Thanks to the posters here, I can see I was right.

Since I'm hardly ever right about anything, this is gratifying. Thanks, ladies.

Cathode ray tubes (in older TV sets) are definitely affected by magnets. LCD screens, not so much. Personally, I'd still probably keep them away from all kinds of techie gizmos (including 9v batteries, as per Viewpoints Wink) just to be on the safe side.

I have never had an issue with magnetic clasps on bracelets sticking to cutlery or carts. They do stick to "mystery metal" costume jewelry in my armoire though.

I wore a bronzo link bracelet with magnets out to lunch yesterday and the thing fell off three times. Lucky I didn't lose it. The magnets are really poor and I don't know how to fix it. I don't think my jeweler will have anything similar, material wise to fix this or put a new clasp on it. Has anyone had this problem with their bronzo clasps?

Gee........I saw your nic and wondered what I had posted and did not remember...........{#emotions_dlg.scared} Then, I realized that it was not ME............{#emotions_dlg.w00t} I will mention that someone called into Jay King and voiced that she has a pacemaker, and can not wear "magnet" jewelry.....which as a nurse, know that the way we used to check pacemakers was with a magnet.......and a radio on an AM station in between the stations, with all of the static..........Wink

Do you have a nice craft store near you, like a Michael's? They have aisles of jewelry making items; you can probably buy a clasp and fix it yourself.

Clover, I just remember someone posted that she almost lost her bracelet while grocery shopping. She had put her groceries in the car, missed her bracelet, went back and it was still hanging, attached to the grocery cart. {#emotions_dlg.laugh}

I really was just sitting at the table and it kept falling off! Nothing around, just think it was a poor magnet!

I did with one bracelet. It kept falling off and I had to return it (too bad as I liked it) Didn't want to risk going through the same thing again with a replacement. But I have several other bracelets with a magnetic and have had no problems at all....
