My favorite all-time jewelry collection, is the one amassed by gorgeous actress Merle Oberon.  She had wonderful taste, and a predilection for big emeralds and turquoises, which of course went strikingly with her sea-colored eyes and jet black hair.

Her famous Cartier cabochon emerald drop necklace has been photographed again and again, but I never tire of looking at it, ha.  Doesn't she also look fantastic in the photo with three huge, diamond jeweled brooches worn on a cord as a necklace?

In the picture with the young model sporting Merle's necklace, note also she is wearing Merle's large sapphire and diamond bracelet as well, sigh.  That model is fresh and lovely, but I really like the jewels best when worn by the elegant Merle.

@Oznell That's pretty spectacular. Have never seen it before.

Just went back to look at the sapphire and diamond bracelet. Wow the sapphires are huge. They look dark, like Gwyneth Paltrow's engagement ring. I'd like to see a good picture of that ring, in all the photos I've seen it looks black and dull.

I agree.  Sometimes big doesn’t mean pretty.  I remember when a coworker got engaged to someone she said was very rich.  He gave her a 4 carat round diamond Engagement ring and it was the cloudiest and dullest diamond I had ever seen.  It wasn’t dirty either.   She wanted a huge diamond and it didn’t matter what the quality was.

Now I'm curious about Gwyneth Paltrow's engagement ring.  I don't think I've ever seen a picture of it.

There does seem to be quite a range on what people want in a stone.  Some want the most perfect stone possible within their budget even if it means it must be small.  Some just love size, and the quality of the stone isn't quite as important.

It's a balance that is maybe hard to strike.  I doubt though if Merle Oberon's sapphire was less than premium-- probably the photography.

@OznellJust found the best photo I've seen of Gwyneth's ring.

What a beautiful necklace. I love how she put the 3 pins on a silk cord. I would have never thought of doing that. Of course i don't own million dollar pieces. Lol!

Thank you for sharing. I just love the jewelry forum here and how you girls talk about your own pieces, pieces of celebraties, and sometimes show pictures of what you own. It's so much fun.

Thanks, I see what you mean, @Greeneyedlady21.  Gwyneth's does look pretty dark.  I'm going to wager though that it might be better in real life than it looks to us.  Surely she wouldn't have (or ex-hubby wouldn't have!) chosen an unattractive sapphire?

Probably a case of a not-so-great photograph or poor lighting again.  Boy, like you I'd like to get a good head-on look at it.  It does look big, and perhaps vintage?

I feel exactly the same way, @Remar.  It truly is eye candy, and sort of like "toys for adults"!

Great fun.

@Oznell Gwyneth's ring is from her current boyfriend Brad Falchuk. Co creator of Glee, American Horror Story. They met when she did Glee, she was married at the time. They didn't date until after she split from Chris Martin.
