Jewelry “Bomb” Parties

[ Edited ]

Has anyone heard of this new kind of party?  You order sight unseen - rings, earrings, necklaces and the rep reveals them via an online party.  There are monthly specials and sometimes cause/theme jewelry specials. Prices vary, based on what you select, but they range from $18-$35. Some items come in boxes and others are revealed by fizzing the package bomb under water and then unwrapping.  All the jewelry has a much higher value than the price paid.  Last week I participated, spent about $80 and ended up with two rings and a pair of earrings that have a combined value of $550, and all are quite pretty.  It's really kinda fun.

Re: Jewelry “Bomb” Parties

i have heard of these, but never been to one.

heres my question. who/how is the value determined of your items?  having worked retail for many years, i know that when those boxed ring/earrings come in with the $300 sticker, they are in the ad for $99.  you can put any price on a sticker, and say that's the value.  the "value" someone may put on something is meaningless.

sounds like a fun type of party.  hope you had a fun time, and the baubles you got, are pretty.

As to your question, @kittyloo, I don't know how the MSRP are established.  It's most likely the gemstones are lab created most of the time, but sometimes you get genuine stones, and sometimes there's a surprise and something will be revealed that has genuine diamonds. And, of course, the presenter freaks out. LOL. It's just a little fun for not a large investment.

@JeanLouiseFinch   Sounds like a fun night out for a small investment.  I would give it a try and hope to hit on something nice.  You spent less than dinner and drinks at a fancy restaurant and came away happy with what you bought!  Sounds like a win to me.

@kittyloo Loved your comment.

Shopping jewelry online at Macys is my recent internet time killer.  I have a variety of lists and get such a chuckle when I see those pearl necklaces (made for Macys) listed at $250 marked down to  $120; then with another special coupon take an extra 30% off!!!!! Plus free shipping.

Gotten a few items in the mail and say "Gee, glad I only paid $13.50 for these $30 earrings"

It's a fun game.

I never heard of it but it's not something that would interest me.  I don't want to be surprised by a jewelry purchase even if it is inexpensive jewelry.
