Does Jay have any hand at all in designing the pieces???? I was under the impression that he just finds the stones and he has no part in the designs. At least I thought he said that during one show.
That being the case, there is no comparison.

She speaks the truth . . nothing "un-classy" about that.
That was not the intent of this thread at all. Those of us who have posted here for years have discussed the difference in styles. CP's design is very elegant and refined whereas Jay builds monuments to rocks. I have plenty of room in my collection for both styles and own lots of both. Bought 2 of Jay's items this week-end, but I think he'd be the first to agree that his style is rather simplistic to showcase the stones whereas Carolyn's celebrates the fine silver work with the stones not so prominent.
I've never heard anyone here on the CP thread denigrate Jay or say they didn't like his work. I, for one, like his stones the best but prefer Carolyn's designs. We're lucky to be able to choose from the best of both. The contrast in the two styles has occasionally been a topic of discussion which is why we thought the caller's comment was amusing.
I think Jay used to do a lot of his designs but seems to have hired designers as his enterprise has grown. They've definitely improved the past few years.
Both companies have superior customer service, some of the best in the business and they're both here in Albuquerque. Yeah!

That's exactly right - I own some of Jay's pieces and I certainly enjoy his show on the air - very interesting and fun to watch - --the comment was for the silly caller who would bring up another vendor's name on a show - not to trash jay at all - while it's true his designs don't compare to CP's in style his are about the stones!! Get a grip before you jump all over people! and ""Hello"" back to you!

Whenever people get into "discussions" on the merits of one designer over another, it never ends well.
BTW, I saw a couple of CP items at TJMaxx today. Earrings and a Sleeping Beauty ring, both less than $50.

I love them both. They are two different types of jewelry making design. It is like comparing apples to oranges. Each one of them have wonderful design teams. I have a lot of both of them. For those of you that tune Jay King out because of the big rock designs ( I know they are not for everyone), you should take another look at some of his more gallery design jewelry.

I thought this was going to be about the call that was censored because a woman was telling Jay King about a problem she had with a ring of his. What is that about??? I've seen HSN do that before. I'm sure people think it's worse than it is when they block what the caller has to say. Not a good policy.

I only watched a bit of his show and heard that call. I got the feeling that the comment about CP made him very uncomfortable. He said he does know her, so I'm sure he did not want to continue that line of conversation. Very uncool of the lady to bring up ANY competing vendor while on a call-in.

Very well put, Kachina! I really like Jay and watch when he is on, and I have a few of his pieces and admired many of the stones he brings. But it's like comparing apples and oranges IMO.
And as far as Chi's comment about CP having inflated prices . . I disagree (and she's putting a designer down as well lol!). Maybe some of her pieces are overpriced, but again . . compared to many designers, her prices are great for the wonderful quality you're getting and made in the US.

When I saw the title of this thread, I just knew it would be one more in the endless stream of examples of why I don't listen to callers.
The Mute Button is my friend!!
