What is this? Plated?

I wondered the same thing or is it a typo?

The description indicates it's plated.

You know what 10k, 14k, and 18k are..............so you can guess what 1k is......

I think it’s a little bit different from silver plated gold. The description says it is an alloy, and then it’s plated but except for 24k,isn’t all gold jewelry made from an alloy? maybe this will age better than having no gold under the plating???
it might make a pretty piece of jewelry. Can’t imagine it will have easy re-sale value although except for old gold paid for years ago, not much jewelry of any kind is a good investment.

To me, it means that I know I don't want it, I can imagine how quickly 1K of gold plating would wear off, leaving me with an ugly 'alloy' ring.
No thanks.

Sounds like the Q trying to connive another way to be cheapo with gold yet somehow make it sound appealing.

@KingstonsMom I have barely watched today. Did the host show a piece of the alloy before the plating went on? Do we know what 1k metal looks like? I know I don’t - I have an antique bracelet a jeweler told me is made from 9k gold. It looks different from 10k, but it if it were plated, I doubt wear would show as it does on silver sometimes.

9KT gold is the standard in the UK, I have some UK pieces in 9KT and have no complaints after many years.
9K GOLD VS 18K GOLD – WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN 9K AND 18K GOLD?
What is the difference between 9K and 18K gold? In the UK, jewellers tend to sell gold in these two purities. But what do they mean, and which is better? In our guide below we explain the differences in appearance, quality and price – so you can shop gold jewellery with confidence.
WHAT ARE GOLD KARATS?
A karat is a unit of gold purity. It refers to the amount of pure gold there is in a piece of jewellery.
HOW DO KARAT MEASUREMENTS WORK?
One karat represents 1/24th of the whole gold content in a piece of jewelry.
So at the top of the scale, 24K gold is 100% pure gold.
And, for example, 9K gold contains 37.5% pure gold, the rest being a mix of alloy metals.
WHAT OTHER GOLD PURITIES ARE THERE?
Gold items come in various purities, as follows:
