Personally, Judith Ripka jewelry is not my style but she is an extremely talented designer with a stellar career. She is incredibly well known in the jewelry world. I've lived in Manhattan for many years and her high end line is very popular in certain circles.
It's not uncommon for even costume jewelry to command premium prices. Hermes, Chanel, Lanvin, Marni etc. all sell fashion jewelry for hundreds to thousands of dollars and appraise for quite a bit. The difference is these pieces are typically limited run collector pieces made in Europe, not mass produced interpretations of the main line produced in Asia. Have you ever priced vintage Haskell or Eisenberg? You shouldn't buy jewelry to recoup your cost, you should purchase it because you love it. For me the QVC Ripka line is just not special enough to warrant the premium designer price tag charged on many of the current pieces.

Diamonique is cubic zirconia, which is simulated or faux diamond. This with SS should not cost as much as some of the vendors charge! ![]()

This is so true.

Jewelry is not a good investment unless you can buy high karat gold and big precious gems . I have collected jewelry over the years because I love it and wear it all the time, I don't expect to get a big return someday on it. I never heard of any of the designers except Tacori before I started watching QVC.

Unless you are buying vintage jewelry, I would guarantee you aren't going to get too much for anything. Jewelry is worth what someone is willing to pay for it.
JR isn't overcharging for anything. QVC sets the price of the items. If people weren't buying the stuff, she wouldn't be on as much as she is. Do you think what you buy in jewelry stores isn't grossly marked up?
And THIS is who is buying her items!
That's EXACTLY her target audience! I guess you CAN sell ice to an eskimo! lol lol
As an FYI, YES jewelry is HUGELY 'marked up' BUT you can find REAL gems and REAL GOLD for a LOT LOT LOT LOT LOT (did I say LOT) LESS than what Ripka is charging for 'clad' and fake stones!!
I don't buy her jewelry so you would be wrong.
I guess you decided to stop reading the rest of my post where I said QVC is overcharging, NOT Ripka. It really helps if you read everything instead of taking one sentence and jumping to a conclusion.

So tired of all the ridiculousness and venom on this board the past week. People don't generally buy a piece of jewelry from retail ANYWHERE to trot over to the nearest appraiser to see what it is worth or to try and sell it, undoubtedly at a loss.
You buy jewelry because the aesthetic appeals to you and you enjoy wearing it. ALL jewelry is marked up immensely. That's just the way it is - and some pieces and lines are marked up more than others. I agree that the Judith Ripka here is marked up much more than it used to be, but using the fact that it won't appraise on a materials-only basis for the retail value is just another reason to beat a dead horse. Give it up. We all get it. The stuff is much more expensive than it used to be. There is, for many, too much Diamonique in the line. Some of the workmanship isn't what it used to be. I mostly stopped buying myself, except for a small piece here and there.
Using the materials-only appraisal value as evidence that prices are too high here is like comparing apples to oranges. They are both prices, but not from the same tree.
