You definitely won't wash away the rough texture on drusy.  It is the quartz inside of a geode and is extremely hard.  They have some tricky techniques for coloring the stone using electric current and titanium to lay on the gold, silver, etc.  I have one that's iridescent and has every color of the rainbow...a peacock effect.
