How do you put on hinged bangle: hinge out or in?

Okay ladies ~ I was trying on bangles...for fun, ya' know, shopping the jewelry box....and I noticed that I was putting the hinge facing out (toward people), and I have been doing this for eeeons. Anyway, I tryed the bangles on the other way...makes sense, and I hinged myself and walla! - blood blister (TMI). Am I mentally challenged in this area!!
