As much as I like Lisa, it's a little over the top when she hops off the stage and panics about someone ordering an xxxs in orange, navy and gray.....or she's going to have a stroke.....breathe Lisa, breathe...we're not buying it....sorry....

It's so obvious to me that it's a sales ploy when they do that. They're just trying to get people to buy the color/option that's not selling well. It does NOT make me want to purchase. It's a turn off.

I've heard that a lot over the years, but it would be a great job perk, and it's not like they'd buy 500 of the whatever it is.
A few years ago, before smart phones were everywhere, a host came on at midnight and said that she'd purchased five of the items right at the beginning of the presentation. I'd say she broke that rule. If it exists.

Back in 1999 I was watching a Taxco silver show (before it became the Dominique Dinouart show) that Lisa R. was hosting. She made a point of saying that she had gotten someone to order a few pieces for her. So she was also breaking a rule, if as you say, it existed. I also remember distinctly that Lisa said 'nothing blows me away like Taxco silver'.
I also recall various hosts (including Lisa) saying that they couldn't order anything until after they'd gone off the air. Lisa used to get frustrated when something she really liked would sell out.
As regards the Taxco shows, I used to love watching those. As the pieces were presented, the host would not only talk about the particular piece, but also the artist who had created it.

According to some hosts, this is still the rule. Pat has recently talked about it. Then others are supposedly ordering.

It's a PR thing. In our area there are several people who work for QVC.
The hosts see the items before they are presented, as they have to prepare for their shows. If they want to order it they can do so beforehand or ask the vendor.

Just BS to help sell, no doubt. I do not take that seriously.
Now, I am sure hosts probably do order stuff all the time. I certainly would in their shoes. Staff probably gets really good discounts. However, I don't believe they are really ordering during a show.
One time I even heard a vendor (and I simply cannot remember now who it was but it was a woman) saying she was going to have to order something before it sold out herself and it was her own product!!!!
You would have thought she would have access to the product if anyone would, LOL. Perhaps she had sold every single one of whatever it was to QVC. ![]()

I agree with your statement and I also think it is a total sales ploy. I also think when a particular color isn't selling and they hear that in their ear, then they say "and I really love the neon green; it is very popular" and then sales may increase. I never order anything because a host says she is buying it.
