Holiday Return Policy in effect so soon?

I was just looking at an item, and there was a banner at the bottom ... "Holiday Returns Made Easy!" I thought the policy usually began in October ...

We've extended our normal 30-day return policy so that the holiday gifts you purchase now through December 22, 2012 can be returned for any reason until January 31, 2013. You can exchange the item (if available) or you can return the gift for a full refund including original shipping & handling. (Your refund will include the purchase price and original shipping and handling charges.)"
