Help me solve a silver chain mystery, please.

A few months ago I purchased two beautiful and sparkly sterling chains at TJ Maxx. I brought them home and they have been hanging in a hook in my bedroom. I noticed that they looked different, a true gold look to the metal. I have used silver polish and cleaning cloths on them and can not get the gold color to disappear. While they are pretty I really would like to get them back to their silver color They are both marked Milor, Italy and 925 and came with tags. I thought I knew a lot about jewelry but apparently not. Thanks for any thoughts!

It sounds like tarnish, but they should polish up. What kind of silver polish are you using?

Sounds like tarnish to me, also. Try the liquid silver polish in a jar that you dip your piece into.

I agree with Desertdi. Just dip for - literally - a couple seconds and then rinse thoroughly with clear water and dry completely. That should work.

I agree with the liquid silver cleaner. I have a jar of liquid jewelry cleaner and I can put a sterling silver piece in there that is almost tarnished black compeltely, and within just a few second (and I do mean a few seconds), it is beautiful shiny silver again! {#emotions_dlg.thumbup}

If silver tarnish remover won't take it off, I'd assume it's some sort of silver plated material and I'd return it to the store.

Are you sure that not gold over sterling?

"925 Milor refers to plated gold over sterling silver made by a jewellery company called Milor based in Milan, Italy. 925 indicates that the percentage of silver or gold in the bracelet is 92.5 percent. Milor specialises in sterling, gold and also stainless steel jewellery."

It's always a victory for me when I remember why I entered a room.

There is a product you can get at any big box store. It is called Tarnx. Dip a few seconds and rinse with water. I use it all the time. Works easy.

Milor is a good line that QVC has used for years. I'm very confident when I find a used piece from them at auctions. Use a dip product and you should be fine. Sarpy, I think you are thinking of Tarnex (Maybe TarnX). Use strictly according to directions and not on plated pieces.

I use a piece of aluminum foil, some baking soda and hot water. I think it gives longer lasting results than Tarnex, but that might just be all in my head.
