Have you ever seen 24K gold jewelry?

I have, years ago when gold wasn't this high.  A couple friends in the jewelry business wore 24K gold rings.  It sure didn't look like butter, it was very dark and I didn't like it at all.  What a relief.

@depglass    I have just one piece of 24 K.  Buttery and beautiful - gold bar on a necklace.  No idea why those rings were dark.

Yes many times. I've seen pieces from Thailand and India. They're very soft. I've also seen 22 K. Much better to use in necklaces than in rings due to the softness. They are very true gold looking, more yellow than 14K or 18K.

@depglass   i have several  pieces of 24K gold jewelry.  They are beautiful ,,, very buttery.  I can't understand why your friends had 24K gold jewelry that were dark.

I have a few pieces of 24 and 22k gold.  The gold is very yellow, not dark at all. 24K is pure gold.

I am guessing that jewelry that is dark is 24k over another metal and the other metal has oxidized through.  I have a family heirloom bracelet that is 24k over SS  and it is dark.

@depglass

Great Question.

I have a thick signet ring that is 24K  So soft the flat letter side scratches so easily it blurs out the letter on the signet ring.

And I have a 24K beautfully, fully etched, 1+ inch wide, hollowed, domed bangle bracelet that clips closed.  And has matching etched dome ring, from my trip to Hawaii.  The domed ring is far less dent-able than the bracelet,, & LOVE the wide, etched 24K ring!

    It also, is soooo soft, flexible, gorgeous but the etch'ness can easily be blurred with the most minimum of scratches, which could possibly blend with the etch'ness artistry, & gorgeous 24K color,

    but soo thin, I have to watch it carefully when I wear it, that I dont bang it and dent the bangle.

But other than perhaps the 24K'ness of it, (for perhaps 24K resale, or gold "investment" (with the price of gold now)), I dont know wht I was thinking, buying jewelry that is soo dentable, scratchable, soft & super carefully worn.  But breathtaking!!  What can I say, I was young.  .

yes, my mom has some 18K, 22K, and 24K from overseas.

it is beautiful to me and more golden than yellow.

the 22K and 24K in particular though do tend to get out of shape a bit due to its softness, especially in rings and bracelets/cuffs/bangles.

Yes I have and it is lovely, not real durable, but beautiful.

Often when you buy overseas, 18 carat is the standard.  We are just more used to 14 carat which is less than 60% gold.

It looks too brassy in color, not in the shine however. Nothing shines like real gold.
