I've started checking spot gold price daily; it is quickly approaching $3000 an oz. I have never sold any of my gold ( started buying it when I was 21, now I'm 81). Talked to my local jeweler in my small town; he recently bought $100,000 from one of his customers and had some of the bracelet on display.

@patbz Last year I took several items (I didn't think was a lot). I got $2200 - A chain, a high school ring, a few broken outdated bracelets and a couple earrings that were missing the mate. I thought I might get 600-800. I was really surprised. Things I certainly wouldn't wear again.

It's go up to 10,000 by the 3000 years mark...easily. Gold jewelry is not the same as Gold (pure gold) You always pay more for gold jewelry then what you sold it for. But pure gold sell acts as a guide for gold jewelry.

I had alot of gold---back in the day when it was less than $250 an oz. and it was from QVC---I did end selling alot and only have a few pieces left--think I sold it when gold was ONLY
$1200 an oz. and made a good amount of $$ then. Not interested in buying now----

Wow! I own a lot of gold jewelry....a lot!
I could be wealthy if I sold it, but I am emotionally attached to everything I have.
I wonder how high it will go up. I might have to put my heavy gold pieces in a safe.
I even have some 22k and 24k pieces from Iraq...better lock them away too.

Amazing how things increase. I sold a lot of my gold jewelry several years ago but kept our most valuable pieces. Just the other night I mentioned my watch to DH, it's very heavy, the watch itself is $$$$$, I may look it up again-but I'm half afraid I would sell it! LOL!

I have 18K pieces my grandmother used to give to us whenever a relative visited her in Italy. Last year, when the price was close to $2M, I had some pieces re-appraised. May have to do that again.
When my first great niece was baptized, I gave her one of my necklaces with the Italian horn my grandmother gave to me when I was born. I have my mom's horn and I'll give that to my younger niece.
I can't sell anything - those pieces are my history.

@roeroe1005 : I know what you mean about these pieces being part of your history. I'm giving my Son a 2 baht chain ( close to an oz of pure gold) for Fathers Day. DH and I own 3 of these and we want to be sure our Son has them for himself and his boys prior to our passing as we've ones them for over 40 years.
