Talk about a reality check: when I took jewelry making in high school pure silver was $1 an ounce and pure gold was $10 an ounce; both had been at those prices for years.

I bought my 14k,18k gold jewelry when they sold by gram weight. Can't find most of those styles anymore.

@Mombo1 I'm with you. I don't buy gold now - not at those prices. I have some gorgeous jewelry (IMO) that I bought many years ago. I wear it to enjoy myself - even when the only place I'm going will be from my bedroom to sit at my desk in the dining room and work.

Plus IMO I'm not seeing the value for the $. I don't want dental floss weight chains so I'll wear what I have.

I still have my 18K.  So glad I never sold them off.

I'll bet 18k really is beautiful!  Most of my pieces are 14k

Just purchased a whole bunch of 18K (& some 14K) today with ShopHQ gold sale!   I'm from Italy.  So 18K is what I considerthe  real standard. 14K is OK, but I prefer the 18K.  Gold is soaring in price though. I might end up with 10K LOL.

I bought gold coins years ago when most of my friends were buying gold jewelry. Then when my mom passed away she left me some more gold coins. They must be worth a lot by now. I haven't checked their value in a long time.

You should.  Gold coins are an investment.  Much much more valuable then jewelry.

i'm happy with the gold i own. real hefty gram weights, i own a scale. no desire to spend money on feather light chains, paper thin pendants and frou frou filigree pieces.

Nobody is as happy as my husband.  He has shares in a gold mine.  It's rocketed up after he bought it. LOL.Just about every morning he ishappy with glee looking at his stocks. Only person (I think) that is happy gold keeps going up.
