Re: Genesi Jewelry

This might be just me, but I think the "clad", "embraced", licked, etc. jewelry in general might be bought more if it was *14K* rather than 18K.  They are two different colors, and to me anything 18K over sterling has always looked like cheap costume jewelry because back in the day, that was the exact appearance of very cheap costume jewelry.

If you wear 14K clad people might well think it was genuine, but very, very few people in the US walk around wearing sizeable quantities of genuine 18K gold, so the instant thought (to me) is fake, cheap and gaudy. Maybe I'm not the only one who looks at "clad" that way.

Having said that, there are a couple of small pieces that, as jewelry design, I wouldn't mind having - but not at those prices. *Maybe* at those prices if we knew how well the plating would hold up, but no one can know that.

@Moonchilde Ummm nope.  The true "Clad" should be of the quality of vermeil which is 18kt gold over sterling silver.  Not just plated.  Vermeil/Clad is the best of gold over jewelry.  Not plated with minimal thickness, like "gold over", "embracing" and bathing.  It doesn't last as long as vermeil/clad.

The solid 18k gold pieces in the QVC demographic won't be buying solid 18kt gold of any substance anymore.  Not gonna happen.  It costs way too much.

@Moonchilde   I agree that 14k clad is much more believable than 18k which is too yellow and looks cheap.

Well 18kt gold is more buttery and lusterous than 14kt gold though.  At least it's not HSN's Technibond which is just 14 gold over and not enough to be called "Clad/Vermeil." @Kachina624

QVC needs to revitalize their jewelry sales.  They started out with jewelry, but seem to have moved away from it over the past several years.  I just looked at this new line and do not find it to be anything special.  I do applaud them for trying to obtain jewelry that is gold clad with the price of gold being so very high.  I just wish they would get away from beauty & fashion so much of the time.  I have been with the "Q" since it came on TV 30 yrs. ago.  I enjoy the diversity of all the shows, but wish they would get back to more jewelry shows.  They seem to be an after-thought these days!!!

Amen Sparklestar!  Couldn't have said it better myself.  They are selling "junk" jewelry at astronomical costs.  I have drifted away from QVC over the past several years because of the low quality, high priced jewelry.  I wish they would try to improve or remedy this situation!!!Smiley Mad

Kjae, I have to agree with the lady who responded to your post.  Judith Ripka's jewelry line is horrendously expensive and she seems to cater to only those with a lot of disposable income.  These Genesi designs are something out of the 30's or 40's.  It is big, gawdy and just not very appealing.  I don't think everyone is so much "down" on the concept as they are on the designs.

Your post is absolutely hilarious.  I don't know about others, but I don't want to watch or purchase a mattress off of TV.  And, I am sick to death of the Vitamix shows.  Unless someone is a gourmet cook and is always in the kitchen, I don't understand the concept of purchasing such an expensive blender.  QVC seems to be more intent on bringing "big name" products to the viewers than they are on bringing us practical items.  Dollar for dollar, they are THE most expensive home shopping channel on TV.  Enough already.  Bring us products that the "average joe" can afford.  We don't need you to cater to just the rich and famous.  What about the people who made QVC what it is???  We seem to have been left out of most everything.

Thank you for stating what I have been saying all along about Judith Ripka jewelry.  I find it to be waaaay over-priced and have stated so in several posts.  That being said, the reviews that I posted never were allowed.  I guess they don't want to really know the truth.  I don't find her products any better than any other.  They are all made in China just like most of the jewelry products.  Why the high pricetags are beyond me.  If she wants to charge prices like that, then stay in the coutoure world and don't make sterling and clad pieces.  Just my opinion.....I know it isn't very popular!  LOL

@kjae  Sorry, but I think the designs are awful, like something my grandmother would have owned.  If they want to give us something new, make it sleek, modern, slightly organic, and innovative.  Having seen tons of jewelry on various shopping channels, our view may be rather jaded but we need to see something new and different.  Also give us real metals, gold or silver but not clad.  Yes, we have Ripa clad and that's enough.

@Kachina624 You describe perfectly, how I feel about Heidi Daus' jewelry!
