@nova: I knew that was a topic like this one before. Talking about gemstones NEVER becomes old. The Mineral Kingdom is full of gems  that we never seen before. It's not the classic  Diamond, Sapphire, Ruby and Emerald, it's also the quartz family, the beryl family, garnets that are not red, opaque stones like Turquoise, Lapis lazuli, Howlite, Malachite, jasper, Jade ( both kinds)etc. The rare Benitonite, Grandidierite, etc. and organic gem: Amber, coral, pearl. There is a site called classic gems. In there you can find information about each gem.

@nova : Yes! Smiley Happy However, some gems will be never be part of our collection. One of them is cinnabar. It's a red beautiful gem, but... Poisonous because it has mercury on it.

Agree! I used to love buying gemstones on QVC. Now it is nothing but frustration with the very high pricing. And I read so many comments about how bad the color of some of the stones are. I don't want to take a chance.
