Are gemstones so expensive now that the Q has to offer drusy, laboradite and opaque stones? What happened to the beautiful faceted gemstones from years past?

I was just wondering if gemstones have gone the route of gold and have become too expensive for the average person now.

All kinds of gemstones are offered here and on every other shopping network.  Some opaque, some not, some very expensive, some not.  Different strokes for different folks right?

Many of the nicer gems are set in gold and that makes the jewelry expensive. Gemstone cost has risen but not as much as the price of gold.

Apart from the precious and the exotics, gem stones by themselves are not that expensive.  Nor do they have intrinsic value.  What has driven up semi precious is the general inflation.  Also good semi precious stones are set in gold/platinum with diamonds. That makes them more desirable.  The topaz and silver you usually see keep the prices down somewhat.  You have to remember that gemstones are about color.  The nicer the color, the more you pay for them.

Precious/exotic gems are now very expensive with intrinsic value.  Most of these are purchase by investors who hang on to them for years before unloading them.  Generally the ruby is still the most expensive with non heated Burmas in desirable color going for millions per carat..  You can get much, much cheaper sapphire, ruby, and emeralds in the $1,000-$4,000.00 range set in gold with diamonds(a kind of a bread and butter gems) with the colors decent, but not world class.  Diamonds have always been desirable with gemstones so they cost more.

Once in a while you get $700.00-$900.00 precious gems (usually on Gem Shopping network) that are set in 14K with sprinkles of diamonds, but the gem is small, under a carat. That is still a good deal.  They are usually shown overnight or early morning hours at Gem Shopping.  Obviously cheaper, because of less viewers around.

Don't know why Q stores all these oldy threads looks like they would want to clean up their cache of history, cookies, etc like us little folks.

Servers would run faster if you clear out all that old junk. 7 yrs ! think it's OK

to delete these old threads.

@SharkE  The old threads don’t hinder anything. When QVC changed to the new format they asked posters about keeping the old threads and posters said yes.
