What is the difference between faux gold and regular costume jewelry? Isn't any jewelry that has a gold tone finish over base metal faux gold?

As far as I can tell, it's nothing but re-naming!

Is that what they call it? Faux gold? Costume jewelry has been around for a 100 years, that's fake gold. And there's gold wash and gold plate. That's fake gold.

Unfortunately, not everyone knows that "faux" means artificial or false, so they think that faux gold is just a type of gold, like rose or white gold. Sneaky, but legal.

I recall something in the local news many years ago when someone complained to an investigative reporter that they thought they were getting genuine pearls when they ordered something from a catalog called "faux pearls."

Faux is still fake, regardless of the fancy-sounding French adjective.

Is that what it's labeled? Faux Gold, on the tag?
