I have a large pendant and earrings, much more substantial than what they're making now. You're not supposed to get it wet as it will dissolve and ruin the patina. I wouldn't buy a ring for that reason. It looks like an opal with an aqua tint, very pretty.
I love glass jewelry. I have quite a bit of dichroic glass including a bracelet made from a sterling fork set with purple dichroic glass.

I own a Roman glass brooch purchased at The Museum Company store at Phipps Plaza in Atlanta probably twenty or thirty years ago. I enjoy it; the material is so different, and I love that it is centuries old. The piece that I have is silvery grey with a lovely, subtle sheen, a bit of a "granular" texture on the surface, and shows beautiful iridescent colors in the light. It looks perhaps just a little like a cross between an opal and a drusy -- but different. The glass is a flat oval shape probably 1 1/2" inches or so wide, framed in heavy sterling, with a smaller piece of Roman glass in silver hanging below as a pendant. It's distinctive and not something I wear every week or every month.......but sometimes it is just the right thing.
As you say, I was cautioned that the material will turn dark and lose its iridescence if it gets wet. For that reason and because the glass is perhaps somewhat fragile, I wouldn't want it in a ring or bracelet that gets knocked around a lot or that would be ruined if I washed my hands with it on. A brooch, earrings, or perhaps a necklace is probably better for this material.
I love glass jewelry and have many lovely pieces made with Venetian glass, dichroic glass, millefiore glass beads, or other types of quality glass components. Glass is substantial, can be formed in interesting shapes, comes in a variety of types, and has beautiful color, depth, and shine. A wonderful medium for artistry and creative design!

I have two pairs of Roman glass earrings, a small pair with a pearl from Or Paz and a larger pair that is not from QVC. Both are cast in silver. You do need to be somewhat careful with this glass as it is fragile. I would never buy a ring made of this, not just because it's easier to get a ring wet but also because one careless knock and it could be damaged. I love the color and patina and the history behind it. I've always been a history afficianado and I like the idea of wearing jewelry that's over 2000 years old and is actually still very attractive. Since I have scads of jewelry I probably won't buy any more of these, but I like to watch the presentations on them since there always seems to be some new trivia to discover about these pieces.
