Costume Jewelry

I had not considered buying or wearing costume jewelry until about 10 years ago. I have slowly built up a collection that I enjoy. Not the gold/silver Monet stuff. It's more bohemian bead necklaces and collars. The colors are rich and vibrant. Is this a phase that some of us go through or is it realizing that it doesn't matter - you only go through this life once - a shedding of inhibitions, etc. What could be going on? Actually, I get more compliments on my fun stuff than I ever did with my gold, silver, and gemstone items.
