Could someone please explain to me why colored diamonds are set in black rhodium? It stands to reason that a black "underpinning" will make the colored diamonds look darker, blacker, and more muddy.
If colored diamonds were set in bright white gold or silver or white rhodium, wouldn't the colors be brighter?
This leads me to think that it is done simply to hide all the inclusions in the colored stones. Yes? No?

The black rhodium is supposed to make the color pop. I've seen traditional colored gemstones, like amethyst, set in black rhodium.
Last night, Chuck Clemency was showing blue diamonds set in blue rhodium.
