@new nickname 4 wrote:@sunshine45 , I also have magnetic clasps for some of my necklaces, but unfortunately I lost a very special thin chain, small heart pendant due to the magnet failing. I'm sure the bigger magnets might have worked better, but the bigger magnets would have looked out of place on a dainty chain.
Magnets don't work unless you want to try one way over sized. Just pulling off a coat sleeve can dislodge a clasp on a bracelet an can removing coats from your neck.
I worked in fine jewelry 5 years and heard a lot.

I ones I have are very strong--just a matter of using the size that matches the size of your necklaces. I don't wear bracelets at all so that isn't an issue for me.

agreed @wagirl .....the magnetic styles are the way to go!
I have heard of many magnatic clasps coming apart on bracelets and necklaces.
Nothing can come off with a shepherd's hook except deliberate unhooking.
@ECBG I beg to differ here. I have had more trouble with shepard''s hooks than anything else. I wore my Konstantino ones to work sometimes and it was a real problem. Seems the bigger they are the easier they work apart, especially when wearing shirts with collars.
I never feel secure wearing them.

These are really big, and longer so the loop can't go backwards; if you have arthritis, fasting a small lobster claw is terrible.

@ECBG If this is what you are referring to as a shepherds hook,
.
unfortunately, I have lost several necklaces with that kind of hook. If the necklace moves in a certain way while being worn, the hook easily comes out of the ring. I prefer a clasp with a closure, but find magnetic clasps to be more secure than shepherds hooks.

For me, magnetic clasps work well in necklaces that are not too heavy. If the necklace is heavy, I guess a shepherds hook may work better because the weight of the necklace might keep the hook from coming out of the ring.
Magnetic clasps are more of a problem with bracelets, because the magnet may attach to something close to the wrist and pull off. Less likely for something metallic to pull a magnetic closure off my neck.

I had an UltraFine Silver paperclip necklace slide off my neck onto the floor a couple days ago. It was a failed solder not a magnet failure. This necklace was just a few months old, although I did wear it daily. You couldn't even see the break unless you bent the link slightly.
Now i'll have to pay to have what is supposed to be "the finest" repaired. This is the second failure I've had with UltraFine. Junk.

Yes, but mine are on a necklace extender. The issue can be solved with tightening the opening slightly.
I only wear jewelry at work, not exercising or anywhere else. Gravity should hold the pendant down and keep a little tension on the chain so the hook dosen't back out.
Unclear on what would push the two ends of the chain together enough that a shepherd's hook can back out.
