Blue Topaz / Blue Quartz (Ripka)

Gem experts... please help! Are they the same thing? I noticed in the RueLaLa and Bluefly sales that Judith Ripka has a bunch of "blue quartz" but on QVC she seems to bring "blue topaz." Same thing or different? Is the blue quartz a real gemstone? I see that she uses a lot of pink and canary crystals in her non-Q pieces, but it seems to me that the blue (for some reason) is an actual quartz...
