On Silver Designer Day Barbara Bixby showed a new bee ring. I had overlooked this ring in the preview pages online as I don't really care about bees, so was not prepared for how much it struck me when I saw it on-air.

First, it's a bee ring. I have no affinity toward bees. Second, it's a BEE RING and I really don't have any sort of fascination for bees whatsoever! Until I saw it on Lisa's hand. Oh my gosh. Not only does it have these beautiful pink mother-of-pearl wings that extend beyond the width of your finger, but the body of the bee is a hematite skull doublet. A skull. Not an abalone pretty skull, but a hematite skull. Hematite as in gray and not the swirling blues and greens of abalone. So this is a bee and it's a skull. I am not in need of skulls and bees in my jewelry wardrobe and to top it all off, it is a pricey piece and not on easy pay.

I had to have it.

I admit, I paused as I sat transfixed in front of the TV, biting my thumbnail at taking the plunge on a non-easy pay item when there were so many things to capture my attention that day. What should I do? Then it happened. It sold out before my very eyes as I sat in limbo unable to make a decision. Oh No!!! Immediately my fingers flew to my keyboard to place my order. Indeed, even online it was sold out so I immediately signed up for waitlist and did the unthinkable. I hoped someone who received this ring in my size didn't like it and returned it. After all, I had placed my waitlist pretty early so there was a good chance I would be one of the first to have their waitlist filled. I just needed some poor unfortunate soul who was of sound mind to order the ring before it sold out, to want to return it.

I kept checking online all night to see if my size popped in. Ladies change their minds all the time and maybe someone would change their mind who shared a ring size with me. But apparently a changing of mind did not happen when it came to this bee ring with a skull for a body. I checked the next day as well. And the next. By then I knew I was indeed on a waitlist and would not receive my ring on the first round. As the days passed I would bring up the video to watch to see if my opinion had changed. Nope. Still wanted it. I tried to be patient, to put it out of my mind, to look at it as a moth ring as my husband had dubbed it to be the night it aired by saying something like, "Why would someone want a moth ring?" I need a moth ring about as much as I need a bee ring with a skull body.

And then Valentine's Day arrived. I came home from work and there was a Q package sitting for me on the kitchen table. I glanced at it tiredly as I ate the dinner my sweet husband prepared for me. It had been a long day at the office. We talked, the package sitting off to the side the whole time. Finally I looked at the package and looked at my husband and said, "I honestly have no idea what's in that box." As soon as I finished saying that sentence my heart did a quick doublebeat. Wait. Or did I know what was in that box. Could it be? This soon? I couldn't help it, a slow smile began to spread across my face. My husband started to laugh at the transformation he saw begin to take place in my demeanor. Suddenly my shoulders hunched as I practically squealed, "I think I know what it is!"

I ripped open the package and saw the copper colored box. I pulled it out and grappled with it to pull off the top. Long nails and a tight lid were keeping me from my prize but I was determined. Finally the lid moved a bit and that's all I needed to get a finger underneath and pull the sucker off. Now, the pouch, the plastic baggie and....TA DA! The...bee...ring!!! [Insert chorus] I slipped it on my finger in a deep intake of air and extended my arm out before me to see if I liked it in person as much as I did in my...let's face it, fantasies at this point, right? And the answer was...Yes! Yes, I did like it! I loved it! I was smiling, I was turning my hand this way and that. I was inspecting, I was oohing, I was ahhing.

My husband walked to my side to take a look and before I could even say a word he said, "Is that that Bixby lady" in a type of "oh brother" demeanor. Yes, yes it is! I was so excited and smiling and giddy as I proudly showed him my new treasure and said almost defiantly, "Look, honey, it's the moth ring!" He laughed at how excited I was and even more so when he asked if I was going to wear it the next day and my response was a feverish nodding of my head.

I have worn it every day since. It is so well-made like all of Barbara's jewelry. There is a nice weight to the ring and it slips on my finger like a dream. It does not feel delicate in that I am not worried part of it will break off because of all the detail. I ordered my usual size and like all BB's jewelry on me, the size is always a smidge larger than other rings I have of the same size. That is completely fine by me. If you are a half size, go down, not up if you are getting this ring.

As I said, the pink mother-of-pearl wings are beautiful and the intricate silver work underneath and along the sides and as the head of the bee is just perfect. The skull for a body just makes this bee ring...aka moth ring to my DH...that much more interesting. I am not a skull wearer, though I did buy Barbara Bixby's abalone skull ring because it was just so pretty and unusual. While this skull is not that type of pretty, I am a big fan of hematite and I just like that it isn't just a bee ring, but there's a skull tucked away as the body. Why is it there? Who knows! I don't even know if there is a reason mentioned in the video I have watched numerous times because all I could do was look at the ring and not listen. I can't even place why this ring fascinates me so much. All I can say is that I am tickled I have it and that it will get a lot of wear. J290116

Congratulations, Sakuya!! I am so happy your beautiful ring arrived on Valentines's Day! I am a huge fan of Barbara Bixby jewelry and bought several pieces during her recent QVC visit, though not the bee ring. I am always impressed with the quality and detail of her pieces. She had sooooo many wonderful pieces during Feb. shows. You are a wonderful storyteller, and I found great joy in reading your story. Wear your ring with joy!

I thought it was meant to be a Death's Head Moth until BB called it a bee.

Edit: Sorry - the picture didn't show up huge in the preview!!

Couldn't find a smaller picture!

Thank you, maderagirl. I do feel like her pieces are made extremely well. Little works of art and I must say, a bit captivating. I don't just look at them and think, "pretty." It is more like I feel the need to study them.

Still loving my ring! Smile

Hi sunshine45! You know, I, too, have the grasshopper ring. It is another one of those, ... huh? I have this strong uncontrollable urge to wear a ring depicting a big 'ole bug? Well, yes. Yes, I do. At the moment, the bee ring is winning out. {#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}

I don't know what a Death's Head Moth is.
