Hydrophane opals (Ethipopian welo) are highly likely to turn yellow from exposure to natural skin oils and sweat just from daily wear. That doesn't happen over night but it's a gradual thing. Lotions and other skincare products can also turn them yellow and it is permanent unfortunately.

 

My jeweler friend told me that he has taken yellowed and colorless ruined hydrophane opals and soaked them in acetone to remove oils from them. He told me that brings back their color. BUT I don't recommend doing that unless it's a piece of hydrophane jewelry that is wasted anyways and you're not wearing it any longer as it is so it might be worth a try. What do you have to lose?

@SilleeMee   Pearls, opals, some turquoise and plated jewelry will also react to body oils, perfume, sweat and water. I would think most stones that are porous would also be the same.
