I think the industry uses the word lab because that would indicate that the stones were made in a controlled environment, which is exactly what a lab is. @CamilleP

Well, silicone wafers for computer chips are manufactured in MUCH more controlled factories than gemstones are, I am quite sure, but that process is still called manufacturing.  So the salespeople can say "lab" all they want, but there aren't any PhD students doing research in those factories, that's for sure, just a bunch of technicians loading up fancy pressure cookers.

There's a lot more to making lab diamonds than there is to making other lab gems. It requires highly technical knowledge. The people involved have PhDs and engineering degrees. The equipment used to make the stones is not ordinary but very complex and very expensive to make and maintain. Trained specialists are needed for that and most everyone involved in the process of creating a lab diamond is paid well for their expertise.

No, I'm not buying them. I prefer Moissanite and strontium titanate over any diamond, especially for the price difference. My strontium studs are so sparkly...you can see them from space...lol!

I'm with you.  since I discovered strontium, I can't find anything that can outsparkle them.  Anyone looking for some real bling should look into strontium.

I bought two pairs of strontium titanate earrings from JTV, a pair of round brilliant cut studs and a some huggie hoops with Asscher cut stones. Both are so spectacular! The sparkle is like rainbows of light coming off your earlobes. It's a rather soft stone on the Mohs scale (5.5) so I would not recommend it for rings or bracelets. But if you do then baby them so they won't get damaged.
