Alex & Ani Bracelets -- A Fad or a Classic?

I've been a collector of Alex & Ani bracelets for the past few years-- charm bangles and beaded wraps, which l stack. Lately, I've gotten tired of them, and hardly wear them any more.

Do you wear them, and are they still as popular as they were?

I have probably 40 of them, and most of them look so tacky now, that no, I hardly wear them.  They don't hold up at all. The finish is all chipped and dull and weathered.

Re: Alex & Ani Bracelets -- A Fad or a Classic?

I couldn't care less if something is a fad if I love it but I personally never got on this bandwagon. My daughter loved them and I spent a small fortune on them for her. To me, when they were all piled on, everyone looked the same. I haven't seen her wear them in ages. The same with the Troll/Pandora bracelets. I could have bought her a beautiful piece of real jewelry for what I spent. I haven't seen her wear those either in a long time.  Now she's on those rubber ball bracelets. But whatever someone loves is great. I just happen to like more non-commercial jewelry.  If someone loves them, then by all means, enjoy wearing them!

I have 4 that I wear from time to time Mine have held up well, and I like them better than the copycat ones on QVC.

Fad or classic?   They're definitely a fad IMO.  Always go for classic, always in style and if you tire of it, it'll still be en vogue when you're ready to make a change back to tried and true ole' faithful da "classic."

I don't know much about these bracelets but my hubby bought one for me as a gift. It's a little figure skate on a black cord. I love it except that the cord holder bead is very hard to slip around to adjust.

Is there supposed to be a trick to adjust it?

My daughter started buying them for me- I wish I could tell her not to get anymore but I don't want to hurt her feelings-- they are "mixed metal" (what-ever THAT means!--- and as pricey as a sterling Pandora bead - which at least are sterling. She still likes them- but they lose their shiny-ness and she had one that had a color medalion on it- it must have been glued on to the metal because she lost the color disc. I don't like that they tout them as MADE IN USA- I think it's just a gimmick to get people to buy them.

Mine will be a classic. DD got me my first one about 3 years ago for Mother's Day. The DS came home from college his first year with one for my Christmas present that represented something special. I received others as gifts, then  started filling in with the beaded ones by myself. DD just got me the special snowflake one for Christmas this past year.

I wear my 3 special ones every day, then vary them according to my outfit, color, etc. I've bought ones that are special to an area we're visiting. In Key West I bought a shell for me and one for DD. I have some from Disney World. I've had people stop and ask me about them.

Sometimes I will wear my other bracelets or cuffs, but I usually transfer those special 3 to my left wrist where I wear my watches.

We live near one of their stand-alone stores, and it's usually very busy. People I know still collect them. Smiley Happy

@sandraskates: That sounds very pretty. I don't have one with a cord-- maybe someone else knows?

Mine all mean something, and I think that's the point. They certainly aren't supposed to be fine jewelry.

I wear them and enjoy them, and my DILs do the same.
