Isn't synthetic quartz another term for plastic?

I've made reference to this before but will mention again that I love the vintage Miriam Haskell jewelry - not even the metal is real - glass seed pearls - fake stones. But the prices are sky high. I even went to one store in a small town where they kept the pieces in the vault. I have a few really nice pieces that I was able to find for good prices that are awesome. I totally prefer real gems and pearls but some of the jewelry that I have in gold with real stones really doesn't even compare to the designs of the vintage pieces or to many of Judith's designs. Luckily I got some of her early pieces in jade and now try to get the real gems when they are affordable but I did make an exception for the ambrosia bracelet when Sam's had their half price sale. I still can't tell the difference between those stones and my real amethysts, peridots, etc. - if they are fake they are amazing and look real to me. So while I can appreciate all the reminders and agree that we need to be cautious it doesn't mean that the value is only in the scrap metal. That's like saying that a famous oil painting is only worth the value of the canvas and paints. I'm a fan because of her clip earrings that I can't find in real gems anywhere.

She wouldn't even waste her time being associated with them if she wasn't making a hefty amount of money on each piece she sells. She's in it for the money.FYI, the vendors do not set the prices. QVC does.

Since you're from NYC and I live in NJ just 5 minutes from Manhattan, I'm sure you've been to 47th St. where you can buy any jewelry anyone would ever want and you can buy real gold and real stones and diamonds for the same price or in some instances cheaper than Judith's thousands of dollars SS and diamonique. It's really unbelievable. On 3/14/2015 luvtoshopathome said:On 3/14/2015 Johnnyeager said:So what you're really saying is that she doesn't really care about what her customers think. Yes it's so fabulous as she's laughing all the way to the bank. How fabulous for Judith that people don't care if it's real or not. Kudos to her. I always say its your money, do as you like.
Yeppers.

I believe the center stone of the pendant is synthetic. It's a doublet. The four surrounding stones are blue topaz. I hadn't looked at the other pieces as I'm not a Judith Ripka customer. Forget about it as far as I'm concerned.

Vintage jewelry like Miriam Haskell is rare and scarce. While made in some multiple quantity at the time, the quantity was very tiny compared to the massive numbers made by today's mass produced jewelry, huge quantities makes value go down very much and very fast.
So vintage pieces are well designed and well made and also rare and scarce.
A famous painting is a one of a kind original.

I don't know why her jewelry was in Sams but it's gone now. Darn.

Yes, you're absolutely right. I can walk down Diamond Row on 47th every day to work. I have to admit I usually avoid it because of the crimes that occur in broad daylight!!
