Our camper is 44 ft long with 3 pull outs - one on each side of the living room/kitchen area for the whole length makes that room 14ft wide by about 20 ft. long. More than enough to be very comfortable. We have a full size sleeper sofa and 2 recliners in the living room - a dinette that seats 4 - though we generally eat outside, and our kitchen has a residential fridge - 4 burner stove, microwave and a large center island. The kitchen has 2 pantries - one I store food the other appliances. All my pots & pans fit in the island, and I have more than enough cupboards for my dishes. The entire living room / kitchen area has cupboards all the way around the top, and the entertainment unit is a built in - also mostly all cabinets.
The bathroom has a shower, sink & residential toilet and has a floor to ceiling 3 ft wide linen cupboard.
We also have a king size bed , a hanging closet the entire width of the bedroom - 8 ft,- plus a dresser and above the dresser & the bed more built in cabinets. Also , the mattress lifts up and you have storage under there the entire size of the king mattress x 2 ft deep.
We are quite comfortable in our trailer. Most of these "Tiny" homes are about the sq ft of our living room area.
Of course, this is not a unit one would be towing around the country. We had that , but what we need now was space and comfort, to live in for months at a time. We lease our camping site yearly and the trailer stays there all year long. The owner of our campground lives across the street from us in a small log house, and she has already said that when we are ready to stop camping she wants to purchase our camper for her daughter to live in, so it will probably be permanent on this site forever.

A $50,000 for a tiny home vs $250,000 for a 1500 sq ft home.
But I do agree they are much too expensive for what you get, & you'd get much more for the same money in a camping trailer.

There are lots of laws and restrictions on the books about where you can put a camper or mobile home.
I don't think laws have been determined about tiny houses yet. That would allow more versatility in where they put them.

Actually many communities require a certain sq ft so they will not allow them.

@Zhills There has been a lot of controversy about this and many tiny home owners have a problem finding a place to park their homes. Many end up in mobile home or RV parks. Zoning has not caught up with the movement.

Many people do it so they can own a home outright and they don't have to owe money to a bank.
People are doing what they feel they need to do to live....with their own money. If they were to overextend themselves to finance fancier accommodations and then not pay their bills, it would cost us all money as consumers, so why complain about people who are trying to spend less?
The job market isn't what it was when you were working. Not everyone can afford luxury accommodations these days. Just be thankful you can and stop worrying about how the rest of the world lives.

@151949 wrote:@GenXmuse Oh , OK, you could not live in an RV but you think a tiny home is just super . That says a lot!
What "Upgraded features" do tiny homes offer? Please be specific.
Your attitude says a lot.
I've never seen a full-size tub in an R.V. If you can get one, I'm sure it would be big bucks. I'd like to build my own tiny home with a tub in it. I don't like the feel of an R.V. It doesn't feel like a home. Plus, I wouldn't be moving it around a lot, so I'd rather have something that feels like home than something that travels well.

I think tiny homes are cute. They are hard to tow, and find a space to put them. Some of them are expensive. I would rather get an rv or trailer.
151949 camper is not really a camper. It's like a park model mobile home. Basically, a smaller home with fridge, washer and dryer. She can't tow it place to place. When I think of a camper.... I think of one that sits on top of a truck, one you use on vacation.

Well, you'd be incorrect - many park model trailers have full size tubs in them.

RV's (campers) are a huge industry, there are many different configuations. What you are talking about is a truck camper - there are also trailers & fifth wheels you tow in just about every size imaginable, park models & destination trailers like mine that can be towed but that isn't the point of them, and several different classes of motor homes. You can find RV's to fit almost any budget, and every level of luxury.
PS - I almost forgot - tent trailers - for those who like a more rustic experience - a trailer base but a tent top. Many of these now have bathrooms.
