Well, I am starting to sort décor for donation. I moved to a smaller place and just don't have a basement for storage or flat services for display. I have several "themes" like sugared fruit or gingerbread. Thinking the gingerbread décor is going. Trying not to buy anything unless it's one item in, 2 items out.

oh yes me too...I started at 47 to downsize. It was tough but how nice to not have all that extra cleaning. WHAT YOU OWN OWN'S YOU---

Every time I see decor items that I like, I think about how I would store them. The lack of available storage helped me to resist the whole gingerbread craze.

I have a lot of storage space, but there's only so much you can display at one time. My weakness is flameless candles. I have many. I need to move some onto a new home.

I like that you think in "themes", and I do too. While a larger, stand alone special piece is wonderful in each room, decorating in "themes" seems to be, to me, a wise decision when scaling down.

When you said you are considering keeping the sugared fruit over the gingerbread line, I thought "smart choice". To me, the fruit is season less (although many would think it Christmas or winter) and the gingy line is much more Christmas. If I had limited space for storage and display, I'd want something more elegant (fruit) and more useful at various times of the year.

The other thing that I am currently struggling with is that while much of my seasonal decor I have had for a long time, and most is of very good quality, I'm changing my style overtime, and want to get rid of some of it. What stops me is that I had some very old (to me) decor from my grandma, and got rid of some of it. I later regretted it, as I wanted to create a vintage look, with real vintage, and it was gone (I'm too sentimental sometimes).

I think we do get to a point that when we struggle to store and rotate the decor, it does help deter new purchases. I love to change up the decor, but I don't like to struggle with the storage.
