 @Pooky1   Since the mattress/box springs set I have now is due to be replaced somewhere in the vague future, it's good to know that I don't have to replace both, just the mattress. As to the box springs, the day after the mattress set was delivered, a friend and I completely covered the bottom of the box springs with 1/2 inch hardware cloth, fastening it to the frame using a heavy duty staple gun. Eight years later, still good as new. No cat fights in the box springs! I did the same thing to my new sofa. A little extra work and expense, and totally worth it.
