please help me with the name of this item

I'm looking for something on eBay but I'm not sure what it's called. I've tried searching using various names, but with no luck. I wish I could draw a picture of this item here but since I can't I'll have to just describe it.

it's vintage/antique. British. white ironstone, ceramic or porcelain. large, round plate or platter. has large, black, thick lettering with the word "butter" or "cheese" on the side of the dish.

please offer some suggestions if you have any idea what I'm referring to.

Are you sure it's antique?

I'd suggest not getting too specific. Search ""vintage cheese platter"" and just look through them all. There aren't that many.

I think you are referring to Emma Bridgewater Pottery. If you can't find the EB English Cheese Platter, Joanne Hudson Basics does manufacture "replicas" using the 200 year old antique molds.

lovinglife and lolakimono ! YES. ennui1, these are the EB and JH reproductions of EXACTLY what I'm looking for, except that I'm looking for the real (antique) thing. I couldn't even remember Emma and Joann's names for reference. thank you so much.

Re: please help me with the name of this item

I did a quick search last night on ebay. A few other Bridgewater pieces but no cheese platter. There was a caution on Bridgewater fakes a few years ago. They don't appear to be the style you are seeking.

From ebay enthusiast:

"Apparently, a while ago, some of the authentic Matthew Rice lithograph transfers managed to get into the wrong hands and ended up on items of pottery that did not originate from the Bridgewater factory. Since the backstamp was copied also, it gave the pieces a certain air of (false) authenticity."

Good luck in your search.

And yes, RIP Maya Angelou!

well kind of, but not really. this is the reproduction of the item I'm looking for. it did give me a couple of ideas about wording my search differently, which yielded one result. but I'm thinking there must surely be more than one of these listed, so my search continues.

this is the one I found.
