peppermint oil to repel mice?

Has anyone used any peppermint oil based sprays to deter mice in thier homes ?  What is your opinion ? I see a lot on Amazon thru various companies. They have names like Rodent Sheriff etc.

Re: peppermint oil to repel mice?

I have a shed that houses my riding mower.  I kept getting mice nests inside the engine compartment.  My friend said they don't like the smell of pine.  I put a little bowl of Pine Sol inside the engine compartment after each use and I have had no problems at all with mice. I leave a large bowl of Pine Sol underneath the engine compartment in the winter months too.

As to peppermint oil, my neighbor just told me her husband had a tick attached to his leg - they put a drop of peppermint oil on it and it backed out immediately!

We live in the woods and I have tried everything including peppermint oil to rid our house of mice. What worked for us was to get a cat, not leave any food out and seal up any cracks or small holes in your roof, walls, etc.

I use peppermint essential oil at work to get rid of mice in my office.  I work at a prison so we can't use poisons, nor cats, so I use peppermint essential oil to keep them out.

I'm using it along with cedar wood oil, as a pest control spray.

Re: peppermint oil to repel mice?

TY to all. I had never heard of Pine Sol being a repellent but I am going to buy some and put it in the basement and crawl space.

I love peppermint oil anyway so I think I will purchase the one from Amazon and give it a try. I want to try the cedar oil also for pests.

I have had cats and love them but vowed to be cat free after saying good bye to my dear 15 year old cat recently. I loved him and miss him , but do not miss cleaning cat litter. I have seen my little terrier flip and kill a couple of voles outside !

Re: peppermint oil to repel mice?

Having owned a camper for about 50 years I can tell you for certain - none of these things work. The vonly thing that works is sealing up any possible areas where they can gewt in or chew through. We have placed metal screening over everywhere we can think of and that seems to be working (I said as I knocked on wood). They chew thru places you would never think. One winter they chewed the rubber gasket under the door to get in.So now we put metal screening over that area so they can't get to the gasket.

Re: peppermint oil to repel mice?

I have been using pure peppermint oil to repel rodents for years-and it works. Read the reviews on Amazon: we can't all be wrong!

After Hurricane Charley moved through, we had a rodent problem that wouldn't quit...I had never seen a possum or racoon before it happened... rats and mice were everywhere. I had read about peppermint oil and rodents. While waiting for mine to arrive, in a fit of desperation, I went to the dollar store and bought several tubes of the cheapest peppermint toothpaste and smeared it everywhere there were signs of activity....it worked! It looked silly, but it did work!

Re: peppermint oil to repel mice?

Oh, there are rodent remedies sold like "Mouse Out"-it isn't as effective as the pure oil.

Also, be careful not to spray it on plants: it kills them instantly! It is non-toxic to cats and dogs. Our pups love to chew leafy weedy things, and we get some weeds around the coping of our pool. I use it on the weeds....

Finally, always test it in a inconspicuous place: it may remove some finishes, but it's a winner.

I put peppermint oil on a cotton ball and put them in areas mice can be, like Cupboards etc.Plug up all Holes! I have seen no mice so it must work.
