I have a nice book shelf I bought from Habersham, not sure if they are still in business,  It is sort of raw wood that periodically has to be oiled with lemon oil.

Check out estate sales in your local area.  Older furniture is made so much better than newer furniture in most cases.  You can go to estatesales .net to see local sales.

Are you looking for a bookcase type of shelving unit or ones that hang on a wall?

Take a look on Etsy, they have some good craftsmen there if you are looking for that, you just need to search for things in detail.  I searched for 'wooden wall shelves made in the usa' when I found mine for the bathroom.

We just had some lovely floating shelves made for us. While shopping in a local store my dh asked the owner where he got his display shelves, the owner said he made them. So, long story short, we had him make 

our shelves for us. They are from old barn wood with worm holes and everything! What a find!

@goldensrbest.  Try a furniture store for nice wood shelving but be prepared for sticker shock.  Anything made of nice wood is very expensive.

Yeah, everything is expensive,and just not the quality as in the past.
