c. 1750 Georgian Colonial Located In Connecticut In Need of Restoration

[ Edited ]

A lot of potential in this 2,433 square foot Georgian located in Wethersfield, Connecticut.  Beautiful details, but it needs a lot of work.

I'm not up to the task, how about you?

329 Wolcott Hill Rd, Wethersfield, CT 06109

It has a center chimney to support 5 fireplaces with hearth stones (one has a beehive dutch oven), 12 x 12 inch beams cut from chestnut trees, wide chestnut floorboards, 12 over 12 windows, and a cedar shingle roof.  It has not been modernized.

All of the interior wood appears to be in very good condition.  Some restoration was done in the 70's.

There is only one bathroom.  Looks rather dismal.

There is also an addition on the back of the house with a cathedral ceiling on the second floor with it's own staircase.

Oh my, it could be such a gem, but no, not up to that much work. The yard alone, well, let's just say it's such a shame.

How sad.  If I was younger with time and money I would love to take it on.

In spite of it all, I love it.

I can just imagine me walking through the rooms, hearing voices from so long ago.

Good heavens, no.  I would not take it if they gave it to me for free.  I went through one renovation of an old home (not this old) and I will never do that again.

OMG, who would do that to all that beautiful woodwork in the rooms?  Those horrible colors of paint!

What a beautiful house though.  You simply don't see floorboards that wide anymore (the green and red rooms) and it would be a stunning home, once renovated.  First thing would be a new roof; no sense doing anything inside until you replace that.

But if I had the money, I would love it.  Restore one room at a time.  Is it really for sale?

ETA:  I was so struck by this home that I googled it to get more information.  Sadly, it was a foreclosure and whoever had it desecrated every room (IMO) with more hideous paint.  But it may be that it's under contract.  Listed price was $142,500.  What a bargain, with a great backyard.
