It sounds like you made the right decision.
Personally, I would not want every floor different, but they don't have to be identical either. They would need to somehow go together. We have original hardwood in all bedrooms, living and dining rooms, and hallways. The kitchen is tile in a color close to the hardwood color of the dining room. The sunroom and bathroom floors are tile in neutral colors. It doesn't all match perfectly, but it works for us.
