Re: Why Do My White Wash Clothes Turn Pinkish?

We have a lot of iron in our water and when I am on vacation for a few weeks and come home, all of the water in my toilets is pink and there is a red rim at the water level.

Be sure to only use chlorine bleach on natural fabrics like cotton. You can't use it on polyester or your fabrics will turn yellow.

You should be able to use a water softener in with your detergent and a color guard sheet. Your clothing should be white again. That's what I do.

We've had Culligan softeners in two houses. They will test your water for free, and of course try to sell you a softener. There are other types of softeners on the market that don't use the salt like they do. When I married DH 30 some years ago I moved into his house. He had been putting up with the iron for years. After six months, my highlights and toenails were both orange. We put in a softener.
