@Mominohio , with climate change and weather seeming to get worse every year, I agree about the need for some kind of generator. We have a general model now that has served us well. LM

@FastDogWalker2 , what is your location? It must be a relief to hear it kick in during outages! LM

@Lilysmom1 wrote:@JustJazzmom Thank you for the detailed response including the comment about flow rate to the generator being higher than to domestic appliances, etc.
the comment about 10' requirement is also interesting.
We will continue our investigation and I think the next step will be to discuss with a company rep. LM
10" must be local code as all the ones here are postioned similarly to an AC unit

OH yes!
after Sandy and the October storm here we decided we are just too old to "camp out at home"
and a gasoline powered generator is fine until the gas sations run of out eletricity to pump the gas ---

@Lilysmom1 wrote:@SeaMaiden We are rural sort of...about 15 minutes from city centre. We do not have gas here. Our heat is heat pump and oil. We have a propane stove in the kitchen and a propane fireplace and have two of those huge propane tanks already installed. Hopefully we can hook into that supply.
it certainly sounds like General is the top choice.
I appreciate all the feedback! LM
@Lilysmom1 I bet you can hook up! Makes the whole process easier and less expensive too!

The 10' is not the distance from your home but figure the distance 10' x 5' you need to situate that generator on your property in case you need to remove or transplant landscape. Our generator is about 15' away from the house foundation.

We have a Generac. Works well and we are glad we have it. About 2 years old. Money well spent.

@JustJazzmom , that is what I thought you meant ... space to accommodate the generator. That is quite a large space. LM

I'm accounting for the vent space too. Imagine a free standing freezer turned sideways as the typical measurement of a generator.
