Subway tile reminds me of the bathrooms in the subway.
Add an oversized clock and you have the Fixer Upper signature look. Nothing unique or personal design at all.
If I had someone that came in and cleaned them on a regular basis, I wouldn't mind them.
@Snowpuppy - I absolutely hate subway tile, so much so that the house could be perfect in every other way and that would be the deal breaker.

I have white kitchen cabinets in a beach cottage we rent out. These are the type you can buy *in stock* at any home store. My DH installed them.
I didn't want to put custom made kitchen cabinets in the place because it would be a rental. And they do sell custom made very similar to them except they are wood and painted white. Mine are made of a composite material, I believe.
They were installed in 1999 and still look brand new. They've been wiped down inside and out weekly with Clorox wipes. It's an east facing kitchen and brightly lit, no sun damage.
We've changed the counter tops twice and updated the knobs even more, but there's no reason at all to replace the cabinets.
I think the kitchen looks just as nice as other homes we own with wood cabinets and was considering white cabinets for the newest place we bought, but I went with cream colored instead. Makes for a bright, happy kitchen.
I usually go opposite of most people, I don't want items that *hide* dirt. I want to see it and confront it!

I also have cream colored cabinets with medium oak crown molding and solid oak side-panel along the refrigerator, bronze hardware and dark granite like formica countertops...and, yes I have a white subway tile backsplash (classic).
I love the look, everything ties together, and the cabinets are so easy to keep clean.
We previously had medium oak cabinets, which had seen their better days, so I decided to clean them up and chalk paint them cream color with a top coat of polycrylic...I LOVE them!
I have a cottage-style kitchen and everything looks bright and perfect. Very happy with my decision...

The nice thing about white cabinets is they will never go out of style or look dated. With darker wood ones a lot of times they start to make your house look outdated. If we didnt do wihite we would of went with a very dark stain. I rhink if you go super dark stain they wouldnt look so dated as fast.

Thanks everyone for your advice! I'm leaning towards a cream colored cabinet. It'll be a while before I have to choose. We're going to have an addition put onto the house first and then do the kitchen. We're still in the planning stage. Thanks again!
