I don't know how I ended up with a white cabinets - when I knew we were downsizing to a much smaller home, I hit the internet for ideas. For some reason I was drawn to the white. I think it was 'trending' big time at the time I was deciding.
Having said that, it's just DH and I now, we cook but not like years ago raising a family. My kitchen is small. Growing up my Gram had white cabinets with glass fronts. I wanted that, it was a 'feel good' memory. Here's a pic of our before & after.
Good luck with your choice, I'm sure it will be great. Look at lots of pics!

@LoveMyBaby Love the white cabinets with the glass fronts. Wish I had them in my kitchen!

I had white cabinets for 18 years that I lived in my old house. They were lovely. I cooked heavily and they didn't show any signs of wear. Easily wiped clean. I loved the white look so much I opted for white again in my new cottage. I personally don't like the heavy wood look. Especially in a kitchen. But my home now is a cottage and I wanted everything very cottage-like. I succeeded!

I never had white cabinets until I remodeled my kitchen four years ago. I will never go back! I love my white cabinets. They have no texture, inlays, or cut-outs -- just a soft white matte color. I can easily see if they need wiping down, which is done with the greatest of ease. I never have to polish or use some kind of cabinet cleaner, just a warm soapy wipe -- done. The kitchen has all stainless steel appliances.
I use an old world mustard or deep golden yellow as my accent color. I have a large wood framed art on one wall to contrast the stainless steel and makes everything very warm.

@Kaypp wrote:I think it is funny that people worry about white cabinets when black or very dark granite countertops are the place you will spend lots of time cleaning, polishing! Dark granite shows water spots and requires lots of work to look good, I know, we sell granite! We bought a place with dark granite countertops and quickly took them out!
I agree! In my old house I had emerald pearl countertops and they showed ever water droplet mark. When we built this house a couple of years ago, I chose lighter color granites for the perimeter and the island.
Adding: Forgot to mention, regarding cabinets, I have white cabinets on the perimeter of the kitchen and dark grey stained island cabinets. Since the kitchen is a good size I like having two different finishes. I love the white cabinetry and have never had a problem keeping it clean. In my old house I had medium cherry cabinets and they were beautiful, but when we built this house I wanted a change. The white looks better with the very open layout of the new digs.

I think it depends on where you live and how much sun you get in your kitchen. Several of my neighbors bought white cabinets when they had their house built here in Fl. Within a few years that white was turning yellow. They were told it was from the sun. Some folks replaced them , some had them painted. The sun coming in the windows here does definitely fade things. We had our windows tinted to preserve our furniture, esp. our antiques.

Had medium cherry cabinets for over 30 years. They have a medium shiny finish, and with the lighting we put in the kitchen, no problem seeing when they were dirty. Love them still, and would do them in my new home, but for the probable cost.
When looking for this home, mostly saw oak, which I don't care for. This house had just been "flipped", and the flipper painted the cabinets white. I hate it, I decided it reminds me of the green-painted Youngstown Kitchen (metal) cabinets I grew up with in the 50s and 60s. When it's humid, they feel sticky to me. May be just me

I wouldn't mind white cabinets but I would avoid bright white and rather have a cottage white, ivory, even a light beige.

My sister has white cabinets, and we both love them. She's lived in her house about 20 years and has never complained about them getting dirty. They still look nice and white.
