Where Oh Where is that perfect lamp?

For months (over a year, actually), I have been searching for a lamp to put on a console table in a living room.

Has to be the perfect lamp.

Drywall isn't even up yet, but upholstery has been selected.  I know all the textures and colors for the furnishings.

I want this lamp to set the tone of the entire room--really the whole house-- as it will be the first thing you see as you walk in the front door.  It will also be seen from outside.

I've searched sites that had as many as 5,000+ lamps to look through and that was after refining my search.  So in all, tens of thousands of lamps.

I get really Coo Coo when it comes to beautiful lamps, (handbags and vehicles, too).

What are some (obsolete) sites you know of that I may've not perused?

When I redid my place, I too wanted the perfect lamp.  I found two table lamps and a matching chandelier on the Uttermost website.  I also went through tons of websites, catalogs, visits to showrooms, etc. before I decided the Uttermost lamps were what I was looking for.

[ Edited ]

I totally get this!

I have to really love a lamp, and I find that lamps I choose, I will use for decades and decades! I sill have the very first and only lamp I could afford to  purchase. It is a brass Stiffel that I bought when I first moved away from home. I still love the look of that lamp as much as I did the day I got it (but it really needs a new shade, thanks for that reminder!).

My suggestion would be to go to a lot of furniture stores. I find the most unique lamps (not that I buy many of them, my house is overloaded with enough lamps right now) when not actively looking for them. I'll be searching for a sofa, or a mattress, and it will be lamps that draw my attention when I enter a furniture store. They seem to find things I just never see online or in lighting stores.

Best of luck on your search for the perfect one, and don't settle until you find it!

Do you have a Hobby Lobby nearby?   They have a lot of great choices!

I've gotten some beautiful lamps at a local consignment shop.

Home Goods usually has a good assortment.  I also look in Tuesday Morning and stores like World Market or maybe Pier One.  I like to see it in person.

Yes!  Uttermost lamps have shown up on other sites and I have one in a cart (somewhere!).

@Lucky Charm

Check out arcadian home . com

I outfitted my entire house from there.  Literally- I replaced every builder grade hodgepodge lighting fixture when I bought my house.

Also, you could make your own. Cat Happy I'm totally serious.  I can find my "make your own lamp" thread if you want and repost it.

Re: Where Oh Where is that perfect lamp?

Arcadian home, just checked them out and they have the Uttermost lamp I have saved (somewhere else).  !

Also, see Cyan and lamps by Carolyn Kinder (I think that's the name).  Very pretty lamps.

No!!! Please no make your own lamps sites.  Not for me, not now anyway!  Up to my elbows in alligators with this total teardown/re-do as it is.

Thanks for the site rec.

I like Shades of Light, Horchow and Pottery Barn for lamps.  I've never been to the Uttermost website that others mention.  I do have an Uttermost mirror that I love though.  Will check out their website now.
