Re: When do you take your decorations down?

@151949, I used to put everything up as early as possible (usually around Nov 1), and then take it down around the 6th of January.  But now my dh are alone for every holiday after our kid moved away & our parents are gone, so it just makes us too sad to have them up very long.  I just finished taking everything down.  Now I understand why many elderly people don't put many decorations up.  The memories are wonderful, but they hurt, too.

Re: When do you take your decorations down?

I take our outdoor lights down the weekend after New Years.  Inside decorations come down as I get around to it but usually by the middle of January.  I love the lights around the fireplace and usually leave those until last.

Re: When do you take your decorations down?

I feel like scrooge but I want them down asap.  Probably will start removing them next week.  I have two trees so it will take me a bit longer.  And I really need a new ornament box to make things easier.

Re: When do you take your decorations down?

@smoky22, I love to have white lights up on the mantle too.  I bought some clear faceted glass beaded light strands which are battery operated, and was using those for awhile, but unfortunately the batteries in those packs don't last very long.  Have you found anything that has a long-lasting battery?  These are non-holiday-oriented, so I like to have them up all year long, but replacing C-batteries that often just isn't something I want to keep doing every few days.  Some battery packs are better than others.  For example, I've had a Luminara lantern on since 12/15 for 24/7, and it is only today starting to flicker out.  Love that!

Here is a pic of the type of lights I was referring to (strand):

When I get darned good and ready... Usually on or after Epiphany. Fortunately, my HOA says 30 days after the holiday, but other than a wreath, I don't do any outside decorations anyway.

Re: When do you take your decorations down?

This year, because the muggy, warm, dreary, rainy weather has fully stunk and continues to stink, I plan to leave them up until such time as it actully feels like Christmas. At that point, I'll put on a few Christmas CD's, unwrap a couple of  small 'from me to me' gifts that I'll set aside, and celebrate a 'second' Christmas when it actually feels like Christmas and when I'm not too exhausted to perhaps actually enjoy it !!

Oh, I hear ya.  I am going to give myself one day to lounge around and watch tv wrapped in a throw - no running errands or anything.  Just being a couch potato for a complete day of rest.  I already gave myself some gifts that made me quite happy.  I didn't get my Beekman's soap so I might order that as a from me to me.

Re: When do you take your decorations down?

I don't have a set date to take the tree and other decorations down, but since I have had a quiet relaxing day today (for a change), I just may take them down tomorrow. It's all been up for a month now and I am ready to get my house back to 'normal'.

Re: When do you take your decorations down?

We usually take down our tree on New Year's Day, but took it down on the 22nd this year because we had our carpet cleaned on the 23rd. We host a brunch in early January & we use our Christmas dishes. We leave our other decorations(minus the tree) up until that is over. The wreath on our front door stays up until I decorate for Valentines Day.

I didn't get all mine put up this year, but I do love what's there. I'll probably leave everything up till the end of January.
