Down feather pillows can exceed $100
The feathers are sanitized, feathers are put in a new case and my dry cleaners charged me $11 a pillow.
I didn't know dry cleaners did this but my mom had it done for her pillows about every 3 years.

Thanks for all of your replies and suggestions. Our animal shelter doesn’t take pillows. I won’t bother having any remade. I’ve gone to My Pillows and won’t look back. I’ll replace kitty’s standard pillow with a king.
I think I read that the local waste management company recycles textiles. I’ll give them a call.
I try to put as little as possible in the garbage (within reason). We all throw out so much and we’re running out of room for it.

I will interject here with some perspective others may not have.
Some people are very very clean, and have things like pillows they rarely used or that still look like new.
Many charities will still take pillows that look very clean and full and unstained.
They have a spray that they use on anything with stuffing (beds, pillows, comforters, stuffed animals, to kill all bugs, eggs etc. just in case, and in most places they by law have to spray these things) and they will either re sell them or use them in other ways (like for shelters etc.).
I worked for many years in management for places like Goodwill, and all ours around here still take those things, if they are still in nice condition. Give them a try before you fill the landfill with more trash.
If your local thrifts won't take them, or if they are beyond being of use for humans, then the trash is really your only option.

This reminded me of something that happened to me regarding pillows.
As mine aged, I had the same dilemma and thought, perhaps, my sister-in-law could use them in her two dog beds. I hauled them to her thinking it wasn't a bad idea.
Turns out, she didn't give them to the dog, but took them for her own personal use! I think they are still using them and that was YEARS ago.
Apparantly, not everyone worries about what lurks in old, used pillows.
However, I saw the ones she got rid of and mine were nearly pristine compared to those.
She didn't launder them either.
It creeped me out to say the least.
With My Pillow, I launder them every couple of weeks.

@Witchy Woman.............thats a shame, I have donated them to animal shelters that were happy to get them. Guess they are all different in their needs.
