We were invited to Thanksgiving at a relative's house. My son said they always have extra food, so don't bring food. I brought a plant last year. I don't want to bring wine because I don't know if they drink wine. Am looking for suggestions on what I can bring as a pre-thankyou gift.

Do you know if they drink coffee or tea, and how they brew it? Small gift basket put together with a variety of caffeinated and decaf options to have with dessert?

@geegerbee I like the idea of chocolates or some other treat. The ladies on these forums have introduced me to Stonewall Kitchen jams and jellies. They are great and are sold at many grocery stores and Azn. A nice little gift basket of treats would be appreciated, I'm sure.

Even though they state to bring no more food, I just can't help it. I like to bake. So, I will bring a dozen variety of muffins--blueberry, chocolate, banana nut, etc.. to a party or get-together. Easy to make.
Other things:
Fruit Basket
Large box of chocolates (who doesn't love candy?)
Assortment box of teas (I have a relative who loves all kinds of hot teas)
If you absolutely don't want to bring any food, maybe a nice hand towel and potholders set. I know that our household goes through those quickly. Maybe a nice fleece blanket (60x80 size)? Maybe a nice candle set? Basket with bath gels and variety of soaps?

I tradtionally to put a gift card to the local supermarket into a Thanksgiving card and send ahead to my hostess. This helps to defray the cost of the meal or they can use it at a later date. With the cost of everything these days I think this is a considerate gift.

No matter what you choose you have no idea if they need/want that item. I would not bring anything personal or they have to use in their home. Bring a box of really impressive chocolates or some other fancy dessert. That is something they can serve or save. Remember they want your company not your gift.

@geegerbee The good suggestions are a nice box of really good chocolates they can serve or enjoy themselves.
I have always thought it's rude to bring a bunch of food when people have specifically stated they don't need extra food.
Once or twice we had people give us wine and they KNEW we didn't drink. It got poured out as no one I knew was a wine drinker.

HI--I had the same dilemma. I found a lantern filled with Godiva candy and tied with a ribbon at HOMEGOODS for $39.99.
They had different colors but my daughter said the couple would like the black.
It is a nice size 20 inches high. I am also going to bring an apple pie that i will get at COSTCO. I don't know how to do pictures--(sorry) --but it is really a very nice gift!
