We have a formal dining room which most of us know is only used a few times a year. I have plans to clear out the glassware & china to the kitchen, move the chairs out of the way and use the rectangle table as my desk.
The room is open all around to entry hall and living room & I'd enjoy putting my books and photos in the china cabinet. My laptop and journals would go on the table for the times when I'd like to write....I have a huge comfy chair w/ ottoman (& throw) from the living room (that no one uses either) would be wonderful in the corner for reading.
My studio's upstairs, but functions for jewelry and painting...no areas are uncluttered enough to sit and relax.

Personally, I would make it a yoga and meditation room with colorful global decor.
Nice to have a specific area to relax and center oneself.
Or I would make it a fitness room, which is another positive health move.
