I just remembered a saying my mother used to use and I guess it describes my current method of housekeeping. She'd say she was giving it "a lick and a promise." ![]()

The great thing about having a housekeeper is that all you ever have to do is the lick & a promise because she does all the real work. I can do all my daily chores in about a half hour and the house always looks fine if someone stops over. Except on laundry days - I HATE laundry days, and that it takes all day to get done.

My Mother used to say that too...LOL
.I'm 60, recently retired and I guess not the norm....I love cooking and baking now that I have time. I love decorating the house(granddaughter oo's and ahs), do alot of gardening and I am neat, clean and organized.
I couldn't wait to retire so I could do all the things I wanted to do and never had the time or energy to. I am healthy now, but I realize that things can change and I won't be able to someday.

I currently have physical limitations, going through cancer treatment. I used to get joy out of cleaning the house. It was spotless. These days that's not a realistic expectation. I can only do things in short spurts. The house isn't as clean as I'd like it, but it is what it is. I have a couple friends that come over now and then that tackle the larger tasks. My priorities have shifted, not sure if I'll go back to the old way or not.

What a blessing to be retired, and healthy and excited about homemaking! I'm so happy for you, as I'm sure we all know so many who, by the time they retire, have failing health as well.
Enjoy every minute of it, you earned it and will make such wonderful memories for your granddaughter.

I'm 56, an age where a lot of women are at their best. I have a lot of energy, but a lot of other responsibilities, so I keep it minimal. Christmas is four varied size fake poinsettieas on the porch and a wreath on the door. Dh used to love decorating with lights, but his health is not good, so he pretty much puttered out on that.
I keep up with most of the housekeeping, but those things that require bending and kneeling are very, very difficult. My right knee is shouting at me all the time. I wash floors with my steamer, but the baseboards and corners aren't up to my former standards because I can't get down there and deal with them.
In my head, I haven't given up. I think about how I want things to look and the things I want to do. There was a time when I enjoyed refinishing furniture, but I haven't done that in years. I'm hoping that if I ever get to retire I will still have the good health required to do those things I used to love so much.
I haven't slacked off in the kitchen, though. I still knock myself out cooking, baking and fussing around in there.
