Re: What's your housekeeping schedule?

[ Edited ]

As you can see by my previous post, I do not like cleaning; however, I do like organizing.  I will go to the pantry and organize the contents there as DH justs puts stuff on the shelves and I put things together so we know what we have.  While I am doing this I will wash the shelves and floor in the pantry.  When purging clothes from the closets, I will clean that closet.  I don't hate that kind of cleaning.

So I guess I am not a "totally lazy slug a bug" as a cleaner.  What I don't want to do is the weekly required cleaning like vacumming, dust, mopping, bathrooms, etc or the hard stuff like windows and other stuff I don't even know needs done I don't know what deep cleaning even means.  I leave that to a paid cleaner.

Like yesterday for instance, I have three glass shelves in one of the bathrooms with decorative items on them.  I took the decor off the shelves, cleaned the shelves with glass cleaner and washed the knickknacks.  About a month ago I did the same thing to a medicine cabinet and in that bathroom, threw away 17 unused or expired items.  That kind of stuff I like to do.

But it has to be done as I feel like it.  No schedule ever

@Snowpuppy   I had to laugh at your post as I also ditched Home Ec.  I was an Honor Student and never received a bad grade except for Home Ec in which I got an "Incomplete".

Cleaning and laundry, although necessary, both are never ending, thankless jobs.

Re: What's your housekeeping schedule?

I try to do one major task per day.  Not necessarily a schedule, just which ones needs doing today.

I do have a cleaning lady, occasionally, if I get behind.

I always keep the bathrooms and kitchen cleaned.

Re: What's your housekeeping schedule?

I clean the kitchen after every meal.  Keep the bathroom clean, but the bathroom, kitchen floors every few days.  No real schedule.  Clean, but not a clean freak.  I do laundry twice a week.  Vacuum, probably twice a week. My dusting, well, that’s another story......

I still work full time.

My mother had wash day, ironing day, baking day, bread day.  Dusting every other day.  Really?  Didn’t go off the schedule too often.  Loved bread/roll baking day on most Fridays of the year.  Some Friday dinners were hot rolls/butter and soup or chili, especially in the winter months.

Someone cleans my house every Monday. I clean the bathrooms every day and keep the kitchen clean. This week has been difficult with lower back issues that I have problems with very often. I try to organized and declutter often but behind doing that.Really difficult for me to use the vacuum. I use a walker and I am very slow. Took me all day Thursday to do the laundry. When much younger - on Friday after work had a schedule to get my crockpots out and cook for week. While everything was cooking was busy doing the laundry and cleaning house. I normally cleaned until midnight then slept until 9 on Saturday but enjoyed the rest of my weekend. DH normally puts the laundry up and vacuum. Trying to research the robot vacuum cleaner or whatever they are called. Trying to think of several things to made doing stuff quicker and easier especially for someone like me that is very slow.

I Know I am lucky to have help housecleaning, although I am very conflicted about it because on those days they come,  as I find it very invasive and hate it when they are here- I wonder if anyone else feels that way?

I did thecleaning myself for years and I had to break it up:  Kitchen, daily, baths everyday or as needed, dusting on 1 day, vacuum- mop on 1 day-  Dust and floors every 2 weeks. Other stuff more often.
Now I still work, but when I retire I may go back to cleaning myself. I find it sorta satisfying!

Re: What's your housekeeping schedule?

I had a cleaning lady when I was working, but in retirement I decided I needed to clean the house myself.  I found it rewarding for the first few years, but I am over that!  Now it is just a chore that I am ok with doing.

I like to clean every Monday and then have that wonderful feeling that I am done for the week.  Some weeks when other things are scheduled I shift the day and sometimes I clean the main floor one day and the upstairs another day.  I am more flexible now than I was at first.  It's just my DH and me so things don't get very dirty.  I am very neat and I think that helps.

Re: What's your housekeeping schedule?

I'm trying to get used to NOT having a cleaning lady every two weeks. I'm (mostly) retired, and just felt that i don't need to spend money for that anymore. I can't do everything she did in the short amount of time she did it, so I'm trying to spread it over 2-3 days. No real schedule, just see something needs doing and do it. Trying to keep up with the hair my VERY large dog sheds is an exercise in futility! I did buy a cordless Bissell vacuum and really like it...it's spoiled me for the kind with cords!

Tidy and reasonably clean is my standard. Right now, I'm not too worried about all my floors, as we are having one bathroom renovated--to be immediately followed by the other. The workers have covered my mudroom/hall floors with paper held down with painter's tape.
