Nothing like chess or backgammon. Chess is better.

You mentioned other things: nature walks, building tents, play dough, activity kits (so many different ones at Michael's Craft Store), watching video's. I usually keep Craft items for the little one's. One year we all made popsicle stick puppets and even Great Grandma loved it! What age are you looking for?

My Darling Granddaughter, now a brilliant writer of fiction, loved to tell stories when she was 4+ yrs. old, so I set her up with a tape recorder and tapes. With her approval, as she recorded her stories I provided sound effects. We had great fun doing this! Years later, I obtained my first Mac and it came equipped with speakable items. We would write stories and comedy and speakable items would read them in the voices we chose.

No kids to play games with any more, but we will play Scrabble and Mexican Train on occasion. I also like the trivia games when family comes over.

I have a big blue towel (that is the ocean). Also have a big tan towel (that is the sand). I bought some of Melissa and Doug's makings for sandwiches at the beach. I purchased a big bag of sea animals, boats, etc. Whales, porpoises, sharks, star fish...it had everything in it...even found a diver and a shark cage and added new things to it over the years, even boats and a lighthouse. I can't tell you how many hours my little granddaughters have sat and played "picnic at the beach", "let's go diving", etc. I also have built a jungle through the years and added to it... that is also fun! You can get all the little animals at a craft store.
